Watson Dairies Est.1976

Delivering fresh produce with care, consistency, and a local touch.

The story of Watson Dairies runs deep through West Cumbria’s farming heritage. Susan Watson grew up on Hunday Farm in Workington, where her father ran a traditional milk round. From a young age, she was part of the process — helping to care for the cows, bottling milk, and going out on deliveries — a way of life she’s known for as long as she can remember.

Peter Watson, meanwhile, was raised on a dairy farm in Branthwaite, where he developed the same hands-on experience and dedication that still guide the business today.

In 1976, after marrying, Susan brought her family’s round to Streetgate Farm in Lamplugh, and together she and Peter began trading under the Watson Dairies name. It was there they began bottling their own milk and built a business grounded in hard work, community values, and dependable local service.

Now in its third generation — and second under the Watson surname — the business is run by their son Martin Watson, who continues to grow and modernise operations while staying true to the values that built its reputation.

Still proudly based in Lamplugh, Watson Dairies now supplies a range of local businesses — from hospitality and education to retail and office settings — alongside a well-established doorstep delivery service for loyal household customers across West Cumbria.

While fresh milk and cream remain at the heart of what we do, our range has evolved to meet modern needs — offering a wider variety of fresh, locally sourced essentials that reflect the same standards of quality our customers have always trusted.

We’ve also embraced technology to make things easier: orders are now managed through a straightforward online system, giving customers flexibility and control over their deliveries. That said, some things haven’t changed — we’re still out on the vans with a friendly wave and a few extras on board.

Though the Watson Dairies name was officially established in 1976, our family’s connection to local milk delivery stretches back over 70 years. With deep community roots and three generations of experience, we remain proudly independent, family-run, and committed to local sourcing, lasting relationships, and a personal level of service that sets us apart.
